Retention & Cleanup: Keeping Only the Backups You Need Print

  • 0

What Retention Means

Retention controls how many backup copies you keep before older backups are deleted to save space.

Common Retention Strategies

  • Keep last 7 backups (simple and effective)
  • Keep last 30 backups (higher safety, more storage cost)
  • Rotation strategy (daily + weekly + monthly copies)

Best Practice

  • Do not delete your last known-good restore point
  • Keep at least 1 backup in a second provider/account when possible

Tip

Before enabling aggressive cleanup, confirm you can restore successfully from at least one backup.
